Introduction

CIS was engaged to support the depot in its transition to an electric bus fleet, providing the necessary infrastructure to charge around 50 electric buses.

Bolton Bus Depot is playing a crucial role in Greater Manchester’s ambitious plan to become the first city-region to deliver a carbon-neutral transport network. Under these plans, the bus fleet will be 50% electric by 2027 and 100% electric within a decade, reducing carbon emissions by 1.1 million tons.

CIS was responsible from the planning stages, for supplying skilled labour, cable plant, and tooling for various critical tasks. We ensured the seamless installation and operation of the electric bus charging infrastructure.

Scope Of Work

Installation of low-voltage (LV) Sub Main Cables:

  • CIS supplied skilled labour, cable plant, and tooling for the installation of LV sub main cables.
  • Our team ensured that the installation process was carried out efficiently and met all program dates & technical specifications.

Warehouse Supply Cables:

  • CIS provided skilled labour, cable plant, and tooling for the installation, glanding/terminating, and provision of materials for the LV sub main cables for both the EV charging points and LV Switch Boards.
  • The installation was meticulously planned and executed to ensure a reliable power supply to the existing services and new EV infrastructure facility, thus supporting the depot’s operations.

Earthing Installation:

  • Our team supplied skilled labour, cable plant, and tooling for the installation, terminating, and provision of materials for the Earthing.
  • This included ensuring proper grounding and safety measures were in place to protect the electrical infrastructure and personnel.

Why CIS?

  • Co-ordinating with Multiple Stakeholders: The project required close coordination with local authorities, electrical inspectors, and other contractors. CIS facilitated seamless communication and collaboration, ensuring all parties were aligned and the project progressed smoothly.
  • Technical Complexity: The installation of LV sub main cables and Earthing involved complex technical requirements. CIS’s experienced team employed best practices and innovative solutions to overcome technical challenges, ensuring a robust and reliable installation.
  • Safety and Compliance: Safety was, as always, a top priority throughout the project. CIS adhered to stringent safety standards and protocols, ensuring all installations were compliant with local regulations and industry best practices.
